What’s In A Name?
She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, Phil 2:10
There is an old church song I used to hear as a kid, I didn’t quite understand it then (and I think a lot of people don’t understand it now) but it sang about “power” being in the name of Jesus. Some people think that there is some sort of power in uttering that name Jesus, but it’s more than that my friends. It’s almost a bit hard for us to grasp the importance of names in today’s society as little thought is given when choosing our names. We think it’s cool to have names like Young Sneezy, Lil Woof Woof and Immature. We just see a name as just another word.
But the name of Jesus is more than an empty word, or extra special punctuation at the end of a sentence or prayer. There is power in the Name of Jesus…but that power isn’t invoked by saying or even knowing the name…this power comes from knowing the very one whom the name identifies.
Do you know Him? Do you know His name? Are you aware of the weight and authority that Name holds? If you really do it will change your life and the way you see things. If you do, then you will see a difference in your prayer life and if you do will surely be walking in the “greater things” Jesus said we would:
I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. -John 14:12
