GodChaserz Ent presents, Dat’s Gospel Mixx 2
Dat’s Gospel Mixx 2 features the Solar Powered Remix, which is even Hotter than the original, and it brings together a collection of lyricist that I would have never pictured partnering up together, Fedel, Humble Tip, ReadyWriter, Omotayo, JAZ, Tre-9, Big R, KDrama, and Brinson. That track alone would have convinced me to copp this one, and it is an excellent representation of DGM 2 as a whole, different body parts working together in unison, each with their own distinct styles and flavors all meshing together to create one Hott project!
Since it’s formation in 1994, GodChaserz Entertainment has been on a mission to produce Christ Centered Music that presents the Gospel Truth to the masses, and since that time they have been getting better and better at it! The latest release from the GCE Camp, continues in that tradition. Released on October 16th 2009, the second installment in the Dat’s Gospel Mixx series, Dat’s Gospel Mixx 2 takes their production level up yet another notch. This time around Brinson pulls absolutely no punches and enlist enough talent to form a small army. Guest appearances include; ReadyWriter, Omotayo, Young D, Mizta Sandman, Big Fil, Eshon Burgundy, J. Johnson, Dice Gamble, HeeSun Lee, Knine, DJ One God, Excelsius, Humble Tip, K-Drama, Fedel, JAZ, Tre-9 and C-Straight. Guest production includes Chris Angelco [, Redd Lettaz, DJ Zorro, J. Pierre, KDRAMA, Conviction Music, Genuine Life Prod and Maji of The Yuinon.
When it comes to sequels, the success of the sequel usually depends on whether or not it meets or exceeds the standards set by it's predecessor. In my opinion DGM 2 has nothing to worry about because it is everything a sequel should be! If I had to sum it up in one word...it would be RAW! This took me back to the days when mixtapes ruled, high energy, bangin beats and rugged lyrics spit with conviction. I was especially feelin the flow of Tracks 12 through 16, which featured all freestyles with the exception of Track 13. The freestyle line up featured (Brinson, CStraight, ReadyWriter, Big R) h.e.a.v.y, ReadyWriter and Eshon Burgundy. Track 13 was the GCE Camps' contribution to the KDrama Air Jordan remix craze, [Ric Flair On em] which has grown to be my favorite of the KDrama remixes (probably because of the clever use of the wrestling theme and the fact that I grew up watching Ric Flair and the song captures the attitude of some of those old school wrestling legends.)
First Impressions
I listened to Dat’s Gospel Mixx 2 from start to finish quite a few times, and a few things stood out to me about this one. First of all Brinson was not playing or kidding around with this one, I was almost twenty tracks in when it dawned on me that I hadn’t really heard any funny skits or playing around, even the freestyles were on point with giving the listener a point blank range shotgun blast of the truth. Secondly I noticed that, where other projects tend to slow things down and fade out toward the end, Brinson does the opposite, closing out DGM2 with the [Solar Powered Remix], a Bonus Track featuring the talents of Dice Gamble and HeeSun Lee [Kingdom Track Stars], and a Hidden Track by Big R [Anointed Swagga] The Solar Powered Remix is even Hotter than the original, and it brings together a collection of lyricist that I would have never pictured partnering up together, Fedel, Humble Tip, ReadyWriter, Omotayo, JAZ, Tre-9, Big R, KDrama, and Brinson. That track alone would have convinced me to copp this one, and it is an excellent representation of DGM 2 as a whole, different body parts working together in unison, each with their own distinct styles and flavors all meshing together to create one Hott project!
On the list of tracks that stood out to me I would have to include the Bonus Track, [Kingdom Track Stars] which features Dice Gamble and HeeSun Lee, both of them are raw on this track and I know for the most part the Hip Hop seems to be a “man’s world, but artist like HeeSun are doing their best to prove otherwise…as always she is FEE-YER-SE on this track!! Also on that list would be Track 16 [Freestyle] by Eshon Burgundy, as soon as I heard that monstrous beat and he started flowing The Yuinon came to mind, so I wasn’t surprised when I saw Maji’s name in the production credits. (Don’t sleep on these cats!) Rounding out that list would be Track 17 [The Best], Knine flows, armed with nothing but a drumbeat and Rossi harmonizing, I’m starting to think that this cat can probably rhyme over just about anything.
Although DGM 2 is lite on Brinson’s usual comedic antics, this wouldn’t be a GCE project if it didn’t have at least one track that goes against the grain. Track 18 [Church Noise] is Brinson’s Official Signature that this was one of his projects, and after listening a few times it is kind of funny, but you don’t get to laugh too long because Big R brings it back with the Bass heavy [Jesus Coming Back].
DGM 2 is without a doubt “Whip/Ride Ready and Approved”, tracks like [Gospel Throwback pt2] feat Alpha Project (Excelsius & DJ OneGod), [Rock 4 The Rock] feat Brinson, CStraight & Rossi, and [Kingdom Track Stars] feat Dice Gamble & HeeSun Lee; are sure to keep the trunk rattlin. I was pleasantly pleased with the newest member of the GCE family Cstraight’s performance, his flow & the wordplay on track 6 [Rush In] demonstrates that he is no joke and can hold his own. h.e.a.v.y.’s performance on Track 15 [The Guyver Unit Freestyle], is also noteworthy. Track 10 [Not a Lot to Say] feat Brinson and readyWriter, was also featured on Rapfest V2, I remember listening to it, but somehow I managed to sleep on this before, this time however I was lovin it! The musical arrangement is siiick and the message in it is serious!
A Closer Look
If you are familiar with the GodChaserz Ent style, then you are aware that their content is usually a BOLD, In Your Face Presentation of the Gospel, and DGM 2 is no different. I think the quote from Ric Flair on the opening of [Ric Flair On 'em] sums up how you should take GodChaserz Ent:
“Whether you like it…or don’t like it…Learn to Love it!!” -Ric Flair
I Love it! The music of Dat’s Gospel Mixx 2, draws you in and the lyrical content will encourage, challenge and in some cases even correct or rebuke ya! In addition to presenting the Gospel, Dat’s Gospel Mixx 2, also displays social consciousness with tracks like [Can't Hear Ya'll], which is a direct challenge to those who are terrorizing the hood, making noise and saying nothing of substance.
DGM 2 flows from one track to the next, moving from challenging to inviting to celebrating to admonishing to reaffirming. After listening straight through you can see a theme of getting the listener’s attention, extending an invitation to them and then reminding them that [Jesus is Coming Back]. Industry Veteran and Chaplain Excelsius, teams up with DJ 1-God and readyWriter to bring the heat on [Gospel Throwback pt2]
Brinson does break away from one of the things previously associated with GCE, he forgoes the usual comedic skits and antics opting instead for some well produced voiceovers/dramatizations courtesy of powervoicemedia.com, Track 22 [Be Saved] is a great example of this, as it is powerful dramatization reminding us that life is short, and poses the question “If you died in the next 60 seconds where would you spend eternity?” It closes with Romans 10:9 and is immediately followed by a compelling track by J. Johnson [U Gonna Want Him Back] it’s short and to the point…cleverly done!
I must say that each member of the GCE family brings it on this one. Rossi steps up and shines as more than just a background vocalist, even spitting a rhyme or two on Track 8 [Rock 4 the Rock], Cstraight, readyWriter, h.e.a.v.y. all spit like Brinson made em eat a couple of habaneros before getting in the booth, and Big R is just plain beastly on the entire project!
DGM 2 features more than 20 tracks, one bonus track and one hidden track (so make sure you listen to the end) Here’s the Track Listing and a breakdown of the content of some of the tracks :

- [You Make Me Better] Being renewed in Christ, God in us and in our lives makes us better.
- [Rush In] Smooth word play, depending on Christ, dieing to self, walking in the word (listen to this one a couple of times see if you can catch all he is sayin)

- [Not a lot to Say] Not a lot of words to say, but a lot of things to pray about. Prayer is a necessity, the effects of sin in our neighborhoods and streets are real and it’s time out for playing around and wasting words.

- [Solar Powered Remix] The real source of power…Powered by The SON!!!!!!
- [Kingdom Track Stars] Track stars, in hot pursuit of God! God is everything we should be chasing after him and desiring Him like the air we breathe.
Final Thoughts
Every member of the GCE family brings it on this one, and the collaborations are simply ridiculous! This project doesn’t just entertain it drives home the point the something is missing in our hoods and on our streets, and that something is Jesus Christ who is coming back soon. This is definitely one worth playing with the “windows down!” Among all of the things I appreciate about this project, I most appreciate the fact that I feel better after every listen. If you are looking for music you can enjoy, and share with the people who need to hear the Gospel…this is that music!
