CookBook & Uno Mas - Robertson Bullies

Album Overview

Robertson Bullies EP, features Cookbook and Uno Mas, the dynamic duo, two fifths of the legendary L.A. Symphony crew. Both have been around the rap game since the 90’s, and have been friends even longer, and the friendship shows
in their synchronized flows on this project. The opening/title track “Robertson Bullies,” is a song that reminisces of their years of growing up in L.A. , the early beginnings of L.A. Symph, as well as a shout out to people and places from the
past. Because of their affiliation with the L.A. Symphony, I expected nothing less than some tight musical arrangements with an old school “real” hip hop feel to it. I wasn’t dissappointed as far as the music production and the technical aspsects of this cd goes. If you are familiar at all with the L.A. Symph crew then you know that they have a unique and whitty style, Robertson Bullies has a similar feel as far as lyrical stylings go. This project definitely has an old school real hip hop feel to it…it kind of took me back to the days of groups like DeLasoul. As far as I know Cookbook and Uno Mas, have never officially branded themselves as “gospel rappers” or “holy hip hoppers” but instead have marketed themselves as indepentent artist who simply “do what they do” as such their lyrical style and content is not what you would necessarily categorize as spiritual. As you listen to this cd you wont find any preachy or heavily spiritual lyrics, but instead you will hear two West Los Angelinos sharing and talking about some of the regular everyday things you don’t always hear in “gospel rap.”

This Ep boast 7 tracks, as follows:

1. Robertson Bullies
2. Caller ID
3. Shipwreck
4. Dreamstealers
5. You Wish
6. Stereo-Types
7. Lone Rangers (featuring Sharlock Poems)

Although I didn’t find any “bangers” on this EP, the musical arrangements were tight, the lyrics were creative and well written. One of my favorites was “Caller ID,” which cleverly talks about the luring call of the streets and how they ignore it and choose the righteous path… [the streets are calling me...I don't call it I just check the Caller ID...] Another favorite was “Lone Rangers” featuring Sharlock Poems, another member of the L.A. Symph Crew.

All in all this was a fun, feel good type cd. Not your average “gospel rap,” but definitely a cd you can feel good about sharing with someone as an alternative to all of the negative music that has been flooding the hip hop market.
