Brinson of GodChaserz Ent - Escaping Me

First Impression
On Aug 5th the Founder and CEO of GodChaserz Entertainment A. Brinson Wright, (Brinson) will release his debut album Escaping Me. Until now we have only been getting short glimpses of Brinson’s creative genius, through his guest appearances on other artist tracks. Some of us have even seen his humorous side in those hilarious Extreme Witnessing Videos, and even on tracks like “Too High” and “Gospel Aerobics” (Dat’s Gospel Mixx CD) Since 1994 GCE has been making music and advancing the Kingdom of Heaven, I was curious to see if Escaping Me would continue in the GCE trend of raising the standard.
My mind was filled with all kinds of thoughts and expectations as I prepared to listen to “Escaping Me.” From what I already knew about Brinson, he always has something to say. I wondered if we would see more of his humorous antics, or would he come out locked and loaded like Jovan Mackenzy. Maybe he would just do something edgy, bold and risky like be himself. I even sat a few moments taking a closer look at the discography looking for any hidden metaphoric meaning. Finally I put an end to all of the speculation, pushed play and prepared myself for everything that Brinson had to say…and boy did he have a lot to say!
As expected the production was on hit, and for me this listen was a breath of fresh air. I was overwhelmed by the fact that Brinson included some of my favorite artist on this project and the results were awesome. “Escaping Me” also features appearances by the Black Lion Pettidee, London sensation Jahaziel, D M.A.U.B., Oppose, Jovan Mackenzy, ReadyWriter, Rossi (Mrs Brinson) and Knine (who has worked with the GCE crew several times before) to name a few. Brinson shows creative insight with his tag team arrangements, for example on the track Solar Powered, Brinson teams up with D M.A.U.B. and the results are explosive. Other power packed team ups include Brinson and Jahaziel on “SuperBadd UK Remix“, Brinson, Knine and Jovan Mackenzy on “What Should I Pray” (an awesome track ) and also Brinson, Pettidee and Jovan Mackenzy on “SuperBadd” (HOTT!!)
On Escaping Me, Brinson brings his own unique musical style to the production, providing an interesting mix of hard knockers, trunk bangers and soulful sing alongs. By the time I was finished listening one thing was clear…this is one of those cd’s that I could listen to on repeat and find something edifying with each listen.
A Closer Look
Having reviewed several projects from GodChaserz Ent, one thing is clear - they are a “100% all up in yo face with the Gospel” type of crew. They don’t water the Gospel down and they don’t flinch when it comes to addressing issues facing the church and the Christian community at large. With that said I almost expected Brinson to come hot and heavy like an old school preacha bringing conviction to the compromising christian and exposing sin in the Church…but that’s not what I found at all. Don’t get me wrong Brinson stays true to the “all up in yo face with the Gospel” formula…but with “Escaping Me” Brinson takes it up a notch, and uses some spiritual Mista Myagi type wax on wax off hitting you without hitting you type technique. Yep there’s conviction and expose and the confrontation of sin…but this time the expose begins with Brinson.
Brinson puts himself on display and reveals himself as a man who was once lost and is now found. A man who has played the prodigal and tried to do things on his own. A man who has finally discovered that outside of the Love and Grace of God he is both helpless and hopeless. The more I listened a scripture came to mind Revelations 12:11
They overcame him (the evil one) by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.
These days talking too much about Jesus and encouraging others to seek him can be the death of your musical career, and it definitely isn’t the path to going platinum (not yet anyway) In spite of this Brinson still lifts up the name of Jesus with each and every track. By Escaping himself Brinson has discovered the true source power…The Son! Escaping Me presents the testimony of a man redeemed and offers hope and encouragement for both believer and non-believer alike. For the believer Brinson challenges them to come up higher and for the non-believer Brinson challenges them to begin the journey. Let’s take a look at the break down of “Escaping Me”

Escaping Me, clearly contains spiritual application, but Brinson also connects the dots between some of the problems we face in society and the solution Jesus Christ. With tracks like “We Need The Savior” Brinson reminds us that time is short and things are getting worse and if there ever was a need for saving now is it. Other tracks like Escaping Me, the title track reveals one of the keys to a successful Christian walk, and that’s through a healthy Love& Worship relationship with God. In this track Brinson just takes a moment and expresses his Love for the Father it’s s truly touching and heartfelt track it lures you in with it’s calm smoothness, it’s one of my favorites of the slower tracks.
“What Should I Pray” made it to the top of the list with the first play. Brinson Knine and J-Mack present a three sided story of a christian trying to approach a hood dude (Knine), the hood dude’s (J-Mack) reaction to the christian and an angry vigilante (Brinson) who rides on the hood dude in a drive by and takes out the Christian as well with the shotgun blast. The three of them flow together it’s gripping and as the line inthe song says…this type of stuff happens everyday! Another notable track was “I Remember” which had me lookin way back at the things I enjoyed as a kid and the things and places God has both brought me from and through.
Among the bangers was “Solar Powered” Brinson and D. M.A.U.B. both activated their wonder Twin powers on this one making a track that it hot enough to be a replacement energy source that will put that drum beatin bunny rabbit out of business. (I had to resist the urge to jump up and down while listening to this one. Another track that I instantly fell in love with is “It’s Alright” which feature Rossi (aka Mrs Brinson) the vocals on this track are so smooth that it’s one of those tracks that will convince you to sing along out loud (even if you can’t sing) It’s a healing track that encourages you that even when you face heavy things that there is still hope. Brinson also gives us a dose of his humor with the hilarious “Things You Shouldn’t Hear” I won’t spoil it for you but this short track will crack you up (unless you are one of these people) The content of Escaping Me remains true to the GodChaserz label, having both spiritual and social application. This cd is edifying and encouraging. Here’s a peek at some of the tracks and their content:
Brinson introduces himself [Hello]
Acknowledging that life really is not life without Christ in it. [I Can't See Myself]
Making the commitment to follow Christ, recognizing the good things God has done for us [As Long As I Live]
An intimate love/worship song (5 *’s )[Escaping Me]
Submission to God’s will, depending on Christ boldly declaring the gospel. Choosing the real over the fake. This bangin track could easily be the GCE Anthem!! [Hear What I'm Talkin]
Looking back, where we’ve been and where we have come from. (I remembered everything mentioned and it made me smile
(this is one of those feel good tracks) [I Remember]
An encouraging soulful track, reassuring that there is hope even after trials and tribulations. [It's Alright]
Can You handle it…real power comes from the SON! [Solar Power]
Calling out those who front like they are bad…the bling, the money and artificial stats don’t even register when compared to Christ! (This track bangs for days!!!) [SuperBadd]
Brinson and Jahaziel light it up as they reveal whose really bad! [SuperBadd UK Remix]
An intriguing story from 3 perspectives, the Christian trying to witness, the sinner not wanting to hear and the vigilante who ends up killing the sinner and the Christian, (you gotta hear this one!!) [What Should I Pray]
Final Thoughts
As I said earlier, I found Escaping Me to be a breath of fresh air while listening to this cd I laughed, I rejoiced, pumped and even had a few celah moments (that’s where you pause and think about what was said) As Brinson shared his story I reflected on my own as I sang along head nodded and fist pumped.
Escaping Me by Brinson is one for the collection and for me it is further proof that the GodChaserz Ent Camp is truly chasing after God and that they are inviting the rest of us to join in the chase. Escaping Me is worth the investment in both the cd and in the GodChaserz ministry.
