The Firehouse Community Arts Center…Sparking New Flames, One Kid at a time…
What used to be a firehouse, a place where firetrucks and firemen were dispatched from to put out fires, is prayerfully, soon to become a center of hope igniting inspirational and motivational fires in the hearts and minds of young people from the area. Armed with the desire to rescue a generation of young people, the Lawndale Christian Community Church, hopes that the renovated Firehouse will be a place of hope. The Firehouse Community Arts Center will provide the young people from the community, a place to discover their gifts and abilities, as well as form relationships with mentors and other young people. Pastor Phil, the pastor of a successful Hip Hop style Church service that draws in hundreds of young people weekly, foresees the Firehouse Community Arts Center teaching young people marketable skills such as web design, graphic design, video editing and even culinary skills.
The building has a way to go before it’s completion, but it’s builders can already envision a thriving community center providing a long overdue and much needed service to their community. Challenges to the completion of the project include the large price tag to renovate the building which requires some much needed improvements and repairs. Pastor Phil recently launched a campaign on the popular social networking site, Facebook, asking each of his Facebook friends to contribute the small amount of $10.00 to help reach the goal of raising $10,000 by Nov 16th 2009 to qualify for a Matching Grant Program. The Nov 16th deadline is quickly approaching, and they need all the help they can get to make this dream become a reality.
